First of all, we wish to turn the dear reader's attention to the fact that the different browsers have various acting manners with a same file of a web page.

On one hand, due to this statement, a similar display of the site on the different browsers is impossible, and on the other hand, some functions which are not supported by one or another browser change the ergonomic of the pages.

So is the music on the home page, which may not be correctly activated on some browsers.

The site has been tested with I.E.11, Safari, Firefox, Opera and Chrome, with various results.

If you are running Windows XP, which doesn't support I.E.11, you may use FireFox or Chrome, which use the last recommendations and run without any problem under Windows XP.

The reader will be kind enough to excuse us for those troubles we can unfortunately not manage.

It is highly recommended to use the last version of your browser, which is supposed to be compatible with the last norms et allows you to have a conformable result.

Making of the works of this site.

To put the works on-line was a long and complex implementation.

The first operation is of course to scan the document, then to translate it in a text file.

This method is sufficient to get a convenient text file with good quality modern publishings, but is under no circumstance enough with ancient publishings, which printing quality may not be on top, and were some characters (the S for instance) have a different written form. Moreover, the words spelling is often different from the modern one, not forgetting the words became obsolete, which OCR programs (translating program from scan to text) have huge difficulties to manage.

In this case, it is necessary to reread the entire document, without forgetting the take the spelling into account.

Then the document is structured so that to get the work cut in paragraphs, pages, chapters, etc.

Originally made so that the works can be integrated in a documentary database, this work is done with tags. These very tags are reused to produce a structured document in the PDF downloadable file of the work, which allows the use of Adobe Reader's bookmarks.

At this level, if the text is in old French, a new file is created in modern spelling. In this latter case, words are respelled one for one without any interpretation nor changes of the display of the text, each word keeping the same place.

If words become obsolete are found, they are left as they are, often followed with an added asterisk which lead to a note at the bottom of the page giving a translation or an explanation.

The work, original or in modern spelling, is then run in a spelling and syntactic corrector.

Then are resolved the words which are cut by an end of line, or of the last line of a page on the first line of the next page. This document is the one that may be on-line consulted. To get the latter, it is converted into a series of HTML files, allowing a fast consulting on the Web.

In the case of downloadable works, these are transformed in PDF files (being consulting with Adobe Reader) from the original files (possibly with ancient spelling).

It also exists a file type that can be loaded in a documentary database (in this case Folio-Views), so that you may be able to make an elaborated research on documents, with the help of an integrated questioning system within the database. We may possibly supply people owning the software with this type of file.
